The nation’s oldest Chiyono Hasegawa (Kiyama-cho, Saga Prefecture), on November 20, celebrated her 115th birthday. Born 1896 (Meiji 29), Mrs Hasegawa was born in the same year as the poet Kenji Miyazawa, and according to records she is the second-oldest in the world since June.

The “Long-Term Care Health Facility” celebrated with Mrs Hasegawa "Aozora" (Kiyama-cho), according to the visiting room staff before 8:00 this morning, they wished her a "Happy Birthday" and smiled nodding. Recently, she suffered a slight decline in physical strength, and had to take a room in a facility in mid-September, "with many in Japan wishing her well,”and it seemed fine.
